MBPJ Drainage Department Overview

  • 15 staff in this department, 11 effective staff. 
  • 800 aduan a year
  • 2300km of drains in MBPJ
  • Average complaint: 3m broken drain
  • 2400m of drains to repair a year
  • Staff will investigate aduan and report back within 48 hours. Is really a drain complain?
  • Options to repair, if repairing
    • To do this year, or to do next year. If do this year, most likely will apply Marris.
    • Inden (<RM20k), sebutharga (<200k), tender (>200k)
    • Have to do drawing, measurement, finally BQ. (refer picture for more details)
    • Council's budget for repair is RM 1.1mil a year. So, most of the cases have to apply for Marris funds. 
    • Marris funds takes about 4 months to get, sometimes even longer. 
    • the will compile aduan until RM19k, then only appoint the contractor (220m of V12) if using MBPJ money
    • Marris - will compile (approx 2500m) and wait to submit only when state invites them to apply. a year can only apply 2 or 3 when state invites. 3 to 4 months to approve once send to state.
    • Internal inden takes 2-3 months to approve (1 month if based on ISO) - refer picture for more details)  
  • Often times, tender board chooses lousy contractor
  • Inproper drain covers built by residents call the drain wall to break faster than normal
  • RM14mil for development project - mostly to upgrade to deal with floods
  • no staff to do walking survey
  • now 110 ongoing projects, 37 big, 73 inden
